Value-Based Care (VBC) is a healthcare reimbursement model that ties payments to the quality of care provided. VBC is an alternative to the traditional Fee-for-Service (FFS) model, which reimburses physicians and other healthcare providers based on the number of services they provide.
The Emergence of Value-Based Care
Although Fee-for-Service has long been the standard payment model in healthcare, the practice has come under fire in the 21st century. Policymakers from US government agencies have even gone so far as to label the FFS model an "evil practice," since it incentivizes providers to provide (and bill for) as many services as possible.

Bundled payments: A bundled payment is a single payment for all the services provided for one episode of care.
Patient-centered medical homes (PCMH): The PCMH model coordinates patients' care through a primary care physician, centralizing healthcare services as much as possible.
